body.single-projects .post-content :not(p) img, body.single-post .post-content :not(p) img { display: none; } PepsiCo is to change the packaging of its LIFWTR, bubly and Aquafina brands in order to advance the circular economy of plastics. As part of the commitment, the leading drinks corporation will offer LIFEWTR products in 100% recycled polyethylene terephthalate (rPET) and cease the use of plastic packaging for its bubly sparkling water line. The beverage maker will also introduce aluminium can packaging for its Aquafina water offering in outlets across the US, with testing of the material being carried out in retail outlets.Through the changes, PepsiCo is aiming to eliminate more than 8,000mt of virgin plastic and approximately 11,000mt of greenhouse gas emissions from its operations. All these initiatives will take effect from 2020.
PepsiCo chairman and chief executive officer Ramon Laguarta said: “Tackling plastic waste is one of my top priorities and I take this challenge personally.
“As one of the world’s leading food and beverage companies, we recognise the significant role PepsiCo can play in helping to change the way society makes, uses and disposes of plastics.“We are doing our part to address the issue head-on by reducing, recycling and reinventing our packaging to make it more sustainable, and we won’t stop until we live in a world where plastics are renewed and reused.”The company believes that the initiatives will emphasise and advance its commitment to making 100% of its packaging recyclable, compostable or biodegradable, as well as using 25% recycled plastic content in all of its plastic packaging by 2025.In May this year, PepsiCo launched a reusable packaging pilot in Paris with shopping platform Loop, which is operated by global recycling organisation Terracycle.
