Agilyx Corp. and Americas Styrenics LLC plan to create a joint venture that will operate an existing Agilyx polystyrene recycling facility in Oregon.
The joint venture also will "pursue the development of a 50-ton-per-day polystyrene recycling facility" at an additional location, the companies said.
AmSty already has an agreement with Agilyx to take recycled styrene monomer from the Tigard site for use at its plant in St. James, La.
"This joint venture will greatly advance the circular economy for post-consumer polystyrene waste and reflects the confidence and support by industry for our technology platform." Agilyx CEO Joe Vaillancourt, Agilyx said in a statement.
Now the styrene company will become more involved in the operations of the recycling facility, AmSty spokesman Joshua Want said.
"We saw this as an opportunity to make progress in the circular economy and we wanted to be as close to the process as we could, so we took it a step further and went with the JV," Want said.
Details of the JV are still being worked out as the two companies have signed a letter of intent for the partnership.
"AmSty is an expert in manufacturing. We do a great job at our plants. We run those well. We would like to give our expertise to the Agilyx process as well," he said.
