British recycled plastic packaging firm Faerch Plast UK has introduced 100% recycled PET material under its Food to Go banner.According to the company, the new material reduces the need for virgin materials and will be made available from 1 January.Faerch Plast UK and Ireland sales director Mark Tollman said: “We see this as a great innovation for our customers and the environment, as we continue to develop sustainable packaging.
“This innovation is a further commitment to the UK Plastics Pact, which we are proud to be a founding member of.”The UK Plastics Pact is a collaborative initiative formed to create a circular economy for plastics by stimulating new business models to reduce the total amount of plastic packaging.“This innovation is a further commitment to the UK Plastics Pact, which we are proud to be a founding member of.”Using locally sourced materials, Faerch Plast currently produces recycled plastic packaging at its Ely plant for the UK and European markets. The company has invested £20m in the Ely plant over the last two years.In July, the packaging company acquired Dutch sheet manufacturer 4PET Group in a move to strengthen its presence as an integrated plastic packaging supplier.In June, the company also signed a partnership with major British retailers, Marks and Spencer, Sainsbury’s, and Tesco, as well as waste management company Viridor to recycle black plastic.The project will create a circular economy solution to bring back recycled black plastic into new food grade packaging.
