Nestlé Waters transitions Poland Spring brand packaging to rPET
Nestlé Waters North America has started transitioning the packaging for its Poland Spring bottled water brand to recycled plastic (rPET).The company also announced its commitment to achieve 100% recycled plastic content across the brand’s still water portfolio by 2022.As part of the initiative, the company will introduce the brand’s 1l bottles made using 100% rPET this month.Nestlé Waters North America president and CEO Fernando Mercé said: “As a company, we’ve already put our stake in the ground when it comes to taking the single out of single-use plastic bottles.
“As we begin to transform Poland Spring, our most iconic brand, to 100% recycled plastic packaging, we will begin to bring this commitment to life for our consumers in a tangible way.
“Bottles like these, which are made from 100% recycled plastic and are 100% recyclable, are proof that a fully circular economy is within our reach.”The initiative follows Nestlé Waters’ commitment to achieving 25% recycled plastic across its US domestic portfolio by 2021.The company also aims to expand the use of recycled materials in the coming years in order to reach its goal of using 50% recycled plastic by 2025.In addition, Nestlé Waters and Poland Spring are partnering with organisations such as Closed Loop Fund in an effort to increase recycling infrastructure.Poland Spring is expanding How2Recycle labels across the packaging of its product portfolio to enable customers to empty the bottle, replace the cap and recycle.Nestlé Waters North America vice-president and chief sustainability officer David Tulauskas said: “To achieve a circular economy, we, as brand owners, need to inspire people to think and act differently when it comes to plastic.”
