Dow and Fuenix Collaborate for 100% Circular Plastic Production

Dow has announced a collaboration with Fuenix Ecogy Group for the pyrolysis oil feedstock supply, made from recycled plastic waste. This partnership marks an important shift forward to increase feedstock recycling. Dow’s production facilities at Terneuzen, The Netherlands will use feedstock to produce new polymers.
Diego Donoso, business president for Dow Packaging & Specialty Plastics said, “We believe plastics are too valuable to be lost as waste and should be part of the circular economy. This partnership with Fuenix is an important next step in moving us closer to the future we envision, which is the sustainable production of circular polymers.”
Dow’s Strategy to Enable Shift to a Circular Economy
With this agreement, the company will be focusing on integrating recycled content, resource efficiency and renewable feedstocks into its production processes. The strategy will provide value to post-consumer plastics through an extended lifespan. This partnership will also contribute to Dow’s commitment to implement at least 100,000 tonnes of recycled plastics in its product offerings sold in the European Union by 2025.
Sirt Mellema, CEO Fuenix added, “This partnership offers us the opportunity to scale up our technology. Our ambition is to ensure the value of plastic waste is fully used to create new, circular plastic while significantly reducing the global use of virgin raw materials and CO2 emissions. We are excited to be working with Dow on this initiative and look forward to playing our part in helping to produce more sustainable materials.”
Feedstock recycling is the process of manufacturing new virgin polymers by breaking down mixed waste plastics into their original form. The polymers produced from this pyrolysis oil will be used for applications like food packaging. These products will be identical to the products produced from traditional feedstock.
At K 2019, Dow will be presenting their recycling portfolio from 16-23 October in Dusseldorf, Germany.
