Close survey Jabil Packaging Solutions (JPS) has signed the Ellen MacArthur Foundation-led New Plastics Economy agreement to address plastic waste and pollution issues.With this commitment, JPS has joined over 400 signatories who participate in the initiative.The New Plastics Economy is offering a single platform to the industry, government, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), scientists, students and citizens to build a more sustainable global plastics value chain.MacArthur is leading the initiative in partnership with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). As part of the commitment, Jabil Packaging is focusing on producing plastic by removing unnecessary materials, creating products from recyclable or compostable plastic and supporting the circular economy to prevent plastic waste from polluting the environment.
JPS CEO Brenda Chamulak said: “We are incredibly energised about working with the Ellen MacArthur Foundation on the New Plastics Economy Global Commitment.“As a custom packaging solution provider, we are in a unique position to help the world’s biggest brands reimagine and rejuvenate their packaging portfolios with the ultimate goal of diverting them from the waste stream.”JPS has also announced multiple other commitments set to be achieved by 2025. These include removing excessive plastic packaging, replacing single-use items with reusable products, using more post-consumer recycled content and achieving 100% reusable, recyclable or compostable plastic content in customer packaging.JPS technology vice-president Jason Paladino said: “By removing romance packaging from the equation, our device and digital solutions can make a big impact on reduce and reuse.“New technologies and packaging ecosystems are not only going to help us eliminate a lot of unnecessary plastic packaging but they are also going to reduce the amount of product we waste through spoilage and overconsumption.”In July, Sidel joined the New Plastics Economy Global Commitment to eliminate plastic waste and pollution.
