Braskem announces the expansion of its efforts to become a carbon neutral company by 2050. To achieve carbon neutrality, the company's strategy will focus on three fronts performance: (I) reducing emissions with a focus on energy efficiency, as well as increasing the use of renewable energy in current operations, establishing partnerships aimed at innovation and technology; (II) offsetting emissions with potential investments in the production of chemicals and polymers from renewable sources; (III) capturing carbon emissions through research and development for use as a raw material.
Expanding I’m green™ Portfolio
Among the defined goals, the company intends, by 2030, to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 15% and expand its I'm green™ portfolio, which considers products with a focus on circular economy, to include, by 2025, 300 thousand tons of thermoplastic resins and chemicals with recycled content; reaching 1 million tons of these products by 2030. In addition, it will work so that in the next ten years there will be an adequate disposal of 1.5 million tons of plastic waste.
Braskem intends to expand its I'm green™ portfolio with the objective of including, by 2025, 300 thousand tons of thermoplastic resins and chemicals with recycled content; and, by 2030, 1 million tons of these products.
Currently, Braskem has in its portfolio products of thermoplastic resins with recycled content and with the same properties, quality and safety as materials made with virgin plastic. These resins with recycled content are used in various sectors such as footwear, furniture, household items and the packaging segment, among others.
Committing to Circular Carbon Neutral Economy
Braskem's global commitment to becoming carbon neutral and eliminating the inappropriate disposal of plastic waste in the coming decades shows that the company stands as co-responsible in the face of the challenge of preventing and combating climate change.
The commitment to the circular carbon neutral economy is the result of the evolution of the company that has been in business for more than ten years, adopting policies and goals for this purpose, in which resources are no longer just explored and discarded but are reused in a new cycle.
Braskem's initiatives for the coming decades are aligned with the 2030 Agenda of the United Nations (UN), its 17 Sustainable Development Goals, and with the Paris Agreement to control the impacts of climate change.

Focusing on Energy Efficient Projects
Braskem will continue to focus on its energy efficiency projects and increasing the use of renewable energy with the aim of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 15% by 2030. Currently, 43% of Braskem's total energy consumption in Brazil has already comes from a renewable source. The company recently announced the signing of another long-term contract for the purchase of solar energy for the next 20 years, which should avoid the emission of 500,000 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere over the next two decades.
In addition, the company will continue its efforts in analyzing investments for the development of chemicals and polymers from renewable sources or in technologies that allow Braskem to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.
