Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation (MCC) announces the launch of Green KTF™—a mostly plant-based microporous film. Approximately 90% of Green KTF™ is derived from natural products such as calcium carbonate and plant-derived polyethylene while having the same performance as conventional KTF™. The unique structure of the film has pores large enough to allow water vapor to pass, but small enough to block water droplets.
Several Advantages, Various Uses
The manufacturing of this unique plant-based film has been made possible through MCC’s development of a new production method. In comparison to the conventional product, Green KTF™ releases approximately 30% less CO2 emissions during production, significantly reducing the environmental burden.
KTF™ is mainly used in the back sheets of disposable diapers and other hygiene materials, as well as the bases for high-performance protective clothing. Recently demand has been increasing with the development of the Asian region and it is expected to experience steady growth in the future.
Based on the medium to long-term management strategy "KAITEKI Vision 30" set forth by the Mitsubishi Chemical, MCC is continually expanding its bio-based product offerings to realize a circular economy. The company contributes to the realization of a sustainable society by developing and providing products that have both high functionality and low environmental burden.
