Reducing carbon emissions with rC-Black
Among the solutions that make up the Act Green line, the highlight is the rC-Black which uses the carbon black pigment obtained through the reprocessing of used tires. For the past 2 years, the line has been helping the company and its customers to achieve their ESG goals. The process for obtaining the pigment does not use fossil oil and reduces CO2 emissions compared to virgin carbon black, an important factor for companies that are committed to reducing carbon dioxide emissions. Currently, Cromex transforms around 100,000 tires/month into masterbatches, which means annual savings of around 5,000 tonnes of fossil oil and around 5,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions, thus acting to reduce the accumulation of waste that pose risks to the environment and human life.
Recycling black parts with the NIR line
Another solution that will be presented is the line of black NIR masterbatches, capable of enabling the recycling of black packaging in PE, PP, PS and PET, as they are carbon black free, allowing the identification and separation by type of resin via FTIR (infrared) for recycling.
Improvement of the process and quality of the recycled materials
For recycling, the company presents a complete portfolio of additives to improve important properties of post-consumer resins (PCR) that have suffered losses, such as loss of viscosity, yellowing, bad odour, humidity, among other problems that make challenging to achieving quality and performance of virgin material. Among the additives, there are odour reducers, which encapsulate the characteristic smell of the material, modifiers used to improve the mechanical strength of films processed with recycled resins, antioxidants, which reduce changes in the flow rate and physical properties during thermal processes as well as prolong the life of the material, desiccants, which capture moisture during the process, improving performance and reducing the occurrence of defects in the plastic film, and optical brighteners, which improve the visual aspect of the resin by reducing the yellowish tone, among others.
Completing the range of possibilities for companies that want to achieve their goals related to the environment, the portfolio of PCR masterbatches that use post-consumer resins as a vehicle will also be presented.
Commitment to sustainable development
“We want transformers to have sustainable alternatives, but with high quality and excellent performance in the process, contributing to targets for reducing carbon dioxide emissions, providing masterbatches free of heavy metals allowing for a higher quality PCR, that makes it possible to increase the use of post-consumer resins and renewable sources, making the recycling of its products feasible, among other possibilities. It is important for the plastics market to respond to society by seeking sustainable solutions that are aligned with the 2030 Agenda, having said that Cromex has been investing a lot in the last 10 years in innovation and sustainability” says product technology coordinator, Giovanni Dias.
