Morrow Batteries is pleased to announce that it has appointed Dr. Stina Torjesen as the new Director of Sustainability. “We are very pleased that
Stina Torjesen will join the fast-growing Morrow team. She brings in-depth insights from the European and Global battery industries, combined with a decade long sustainability experience on a strategic level. Stina will be instrumental as we move towards a breakthrough in sustainable battery chemistries”, says Morrow CEO
Lars Christian Bacher.
Stina Torjesen will keep a part-time position as associate professor at the University of Agder, School of Business and Law, where she has played a lead role in the research project
BATMAN ("Lithium ion Batteries - Norwegian opportunities within sustainable end-of-life management, reuse and new material streams"). This project has forecasted developments in the battery sector, and assessed the European Union’s battery policies, including the comprehensive, new EU battery regulation which comes with ambitious sustainability targets.
“Morrow is well positioned to drive the sustainability agenda in the global battery industry through our cutting-edge research on new battery chemistries. We are commercializing new battery materials with significantly lower emissions and more sustainable supply chains”, says Torjesen.
“A takeaway from COP27 in Egypt, is that we urgently need to implement solutions reducing the amount of CO2 emitted into the atmosphere. We’re running out of time and global agreements still do not offer an optimal framework. Batteries are essential if we want to decarbonize our energy mix”, she adds.
Stina Torjesen has worked on circular economy and sustainability for more than a decade, first in the pioneering Norwegian sustainability consultancy SIGLA, and then a number of research projects where the Eyde Cluster and the Norwegian processing industry have been frequent partners. She holds a PhD from the University of Oxford, and previously worked with the United Nations and the Norwegian Institute of International Affairs (Nupi).
