Report outlines technology solutions to meet EU plastics strategy / Joint R&D agenda from EuPC, SusChem, Cefic, PlasticsEurope and ECP4The European associations have made a joint R&D agenda that can advance the plastics recycling industry (Image: European Commission)Industry association European Plastics Converters (EuPC, Brussels / Belgium; www.plasticsconverters.eu), together with four other partners, has published a report on how the plastics industry can fulfil the objectives of the EU plastics strategy, announced by the European Commission in January 2018 ? see Plasteurope.com of 19.01.2018.
Entitled "Plastics Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda in a Circular Economy", the report shows how collaboration within the plastics value chain will drive change and outlines the future research needs required to fulfil the strategy?s objectives. It describes the technology solutions that would improve circularity in three main chapters: "Circularity by Design", "Circularity by Recycling" and "Circularity by Alternative Feedstocks".
The document was developed and based on input from experts involved in the plastics sector, principally the European Technology Platform for Sustainable Chemistry (SusChem, Brussels; www.suschem.org), the European Chemical Industry Council (Cefic, Brussels; www.cefic.org), PlasticsEurope (Brussels; www.plasticseurope.org) and the European Composites, Plastics and Polymer Processing Platform (ECP4, Brussels; www.ecp4.eu). EuPC added that the detailed input will be further developed to feed into SusChem?s "Strategic Innovation and Research Agenda" (SIRA) to be published in 2019.
