Shredall and Detpak launch coffee cup recycling system in UK

Recycling brand Shredall has introduced a new coffee cup recycling system in the UK, in collaboration with Australian paper and cardboard packaging supplier Detpak.Known as RecycleMe, Detpak’s new recycling system is aimed at preventing coffee cups across the UK from entering landfill and commercially recycling them into paper. The introduction of the solution closes the loop for the industry and comes at a time when more than 2.5 billion coffee cups end up in landfill in the UK each year.
Shredall managing director Nik Williams said: “Shredall currently has 13,000 collection points around the UK and will support the establishment of additional collection stations for RecycleMe cups.“Currently, less than 1% of takeaway cups are recycled but the RecycleMe system is designed to provide a guarantee and transparency of the recycling process.“Our RecycleMe collection system is a total end-to-end solution, turning takeaway cups into recycled paper products, and contributing to positive global environmental change.”“Takeaway coffees are an ingrained part of our everyday lives, and with this new system, we can massively reduce the environmental impact of that and continue to enjoy our coffees safe in the knowledge that our cups will go on to be reused up to seven times.”Detpak Product Marketing manager Kristin Camery noted that the RecycleMe system is designed to increase the life of paper cups and support a circular economy.Camery added: “Our RecycleMe collection system is a total end-to-end solution, turning takeaway cups into recycled paper products, and contributing to positive global environmental change.”As part of the partnership with Detpak, Shredall committed to providing collection and recycling services for RecycleMe coffee cup lids.
