Deals and M&As this week: Unilever, Huhtamaki, Brook and Whittle

Unilever and Veolia have entered an agreement to collaborate on new processes and technologies to create a circular economy on plastics waste.The partnership will implement used packaging collection solutions to improve waste collection and recycling infrastructure worldwide.The transaction is part of Unilever’s sustainability target to increase the amount of recycled plastic content in its packaging to 25% by 2025.
Based in Paris, France, Veolia provides water and wastewater treatment solutions.Headquartered in London, UK, Unilever produces and markets consumer goods worldwide.Huhtamaki and Gunwharf Quays have entered a partnership to collaborate on the recycling of paper coffee cups.Gunwharf will provide buyers with an opportunity to recycle their coffee cups using purpose-fitted bins located in Portsmouth, UK.The cups will be removed by Gunwharf from the general waste stream for recycling into new paper products.Huhtamaki is involved in providing packaging solutions for food and drink applications, while Gunwharf is a designer shopping outlet with approximately 90 premium retail outlet stores.“The transaction is part of Unilever’s sustainability target to increase the amount of recycled plastic content in its packaging to 25% by 2025.”Both the companies involved in the transaction are based in the UK.Brook and Whittle Holdings has agreed to acquire Prime Package and Label Co LLC to drive Brook and Whittle’s growth in high-growth prime label categories.Brook and Whittle provides pressure-sensitive and shrink-sleeve prime labels to consumer and medical products.Prime is engaged in the production of pressure-sensitive, shrink sleeve and heat transfer labels for a variety of applications.The companies involved in the transaction are based in the US.Universal Forest Products, through its affiliate, has acquired Pak-Rite to expand its footprint in custom packaging solutions.Headquartered in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, US, Pak-Rite designs and manufactures packaging solutions for a variety of industries, including aerospace, medical, and automation equipment.Universal Forest Products, through its subsidiaries, provides packaging solutions for retail, construction, and industrial markets.
