LDPE compound containing post-consumer plastics wasteRepsol's new LDPE compound can be used to produce transport shrink films that contain up to 30% post-consumer recyclate (Photo: Repsol)A new product has resulted from the collaboration between energy and petrochemicals group Repsol (Madrid / Spain; www.repsol.com) and packaging group Saica (Zaragoza / Spain; www.saica.com) ? see Plasteurope.com of 07.11.2018. ?Repsol 50RX2805? is an LDPE compound containing 50% post-consumer plastics waste and is part of Repsol?s ?Reciclex? project. Recently, Saica launched a detergent tablet pouch made from rLDPE ? see Plasteurope.com of 08.07.2019.
The new material can be used in bundle shrink films as secondary packaging for transport of cans, bottles, bricks or cardboard boxes. Repsol says its 50RX2805 grade allows plastics converters to incorporate 25-30% post-consumer recyclate in the formulation of the final film, without altering mechanical properties. The Madrid-based group notes that this advances its commitment to a circular economy by putting solutions on the market that will generate additional demand for plastics recycling.
