Collaboration on circular materials with Elix Polymers / Supply of recycled styrene

Collaboration on circular materials with Elix Polymers / Supply of recycled styreneRepsol and Elix Polymers plan to supply ISCC PLUS-certified recycled styrene from 2021 onwards (Photo: Repsol)Spanish energy and petrochemicals group Repsol (Madrid; www.repsol.com) says it has signed a collaboration agreement with compatriot ABS manufacturer Elix Polymers (Tarragona; www.elix-polymers.com) to promote circular materials in high added-value products in sectors such as automotive, health, household appliances, building and construction. As part of the agreement, Repsol will supply ISCC Plus-certified styrene from chemical recycling, which Elix will use to produce polymers such as ABS and SAN.
The partnership is expected to allow for the development of a collaborative framework between the two companies in circular economy matters. This includes a commitment to regularly supply styrene with ISCC Plus certification from 2021 onwards.
This initiative is part of some 200 projects underway at Repsol to promote its objective to become a zero net-emissions company by 2050. Repsol and Elix are members of the Styrenics Circular Solutions (SCS, Brussels / Belgium; www.styrenics-circular-solutions.com) platform, a joint industry initiative founded by Ineos Styrolution (Frankfurt / Germany; www.ineos-styrolution.com), Total (Paris / France; www.total.com), Trinseo (Berwyn, Pennsylvania / USA; www.trinseo.com) and Versalis (Milan / Italy; www.versalis.eni.com) in 2018 seeking to increase the circularity of styrenics (see Plasteurope.com of 18.12.2018).26.10.2020 Plasteurope.com [246207-0]
