Kickstart: Electric cars, recycling and warm mittens

President Joe Biden is less than 24 hours into the job and already shaking up federal standards.

Even before Biden was sworn in, Bloomberg noted that he would spend time his first day in office asking agencies to "revisit fuel efficiency standards as well as rules governing emissions from airplanes, and appliance and building energy efficiency standards."

That will likely result in a greater emphasis on lightweighting in the auto industry, where the Donald Trump administration had rolled back fuel economy standards.

In addition, Bloomberg noted, "Biden has made boosting electric vehicles a top priority and pledged to spend billions of dollars to add 550,000 charging stations for such vehicles. He also supports new tax credits for purchases of electric vehicles and retrofitting factories for their production."
