OSLO, NORWAY – 14 April 2021 – Circa Group is honoured to share the news that our Scientific Advisor, Professor James Clark has been awarded the 2021 European Sustainable Chemistry Award (ESCA).
The award acknowledges Professor Clark’s track record in the commercialisation of fundamental green chemistry research, alongside his outstanding contributions in developing green chemistry as a distinct area of chemistry and in building the global green chemistry community.
The ESCA 2021 will be presented to Professor James Clark during the 5th European Chemical Society Conference on Green and Sustainable Chemistry, to be held virtually on 26 and 29 September 2021.
Professor Clark founded and leads the Green Chemistry Centre of Excellency at the University of York. He established the leading scientific journal, Green Chemistry and the world’s largest private membership network, the Green Chemistry Network. He has a strong interest in industrial symbiosis and waste utilisation – making chemicals, fuels and materials from chemical, food and other wastes – solving both the problems of increasing waste and diminishing resources.
Professor James Clark, Circa’s Scientific Advisor, said “I am honoured to be recognised for my contribution to building up green chemistry and linking it to sustainability. If we are serious about curbing environmental and public health issues, we need more green chemicals like Circa’s green solvent Cyrene™. This is work for the whole green chemistry community and I am delighted to have played my part.”
Tony Duncan, CEO and co-founder of Circa Group, said, “Professor James Clark has been a central part of Circa’s sustainable chemistry journey since the early days. His rigorous scientific approach and his passion for green chemistry make him a leading light in the field. This award validates our approach to work with excellence across disciplines, including in universities.”About Circa
Established in 2006, Circa Group converts waste, non-food biomass into advanced bio-based chemicals with its proprietary Furacell™ process. Its developing product portfolio includes flavours, biopolymers, and bio-solvents including Cyrene™, an alternative to traditional polar aprotic solvents, which is produced in one step from platform biomolecule Levoglucosenone. By creating renewable chemicals from cellulose, Circa is extracting value from non-food, waste biomass and addressing a gap in the market by providing bio-based alternatives contributing to a more circular economy. In March 2021, Circa Group successfully listed on the Euronext Growth Market in Oslo, stock symbol CIRCA.www.circagroup.com.au
