CP Chem paddles kayak donation in Texas town
Chevron Phillips Chemical Co. recently made a $10,000 donation to the Baytown Wetlands Center in Baytown, Texas, for kayaks that will be part of the local circular economy.
The donation will be used for a fleet of kayaks that the city of Baytown can use for community environmental education programs and to host future waterway clean-up events, company officials said in a post on LinkedIn.
"This donation is particularly special to us because it involves every aspect of our circular economy approach," community relations representative Heather Betancourth said in the post.
"Plastic resin made locally is turned into a kayak that volunteers will now use to pick up improperly discarded plastic from our waterways, which then can be recycled and turned into feedstock for new plastic resin," she added.
CP Chem makes polyethylene resin and related products at its Cedar Bayou plant in Baytown. The firm is a leading producer of PE and other specialty plastics and chemicals.
CP Chem, based in The Woodlands, Texas, employs 5,000 and is a joint venture between Chevron Corp. and Phillips 66.
